Before you implement any of the following, back up your hard drive and Print this document for easier reference.

I am not a certified software or hardware expert, but I've paid others to find out the following.  As with any computer adjustments and edits, you do so at your own risk.  I can only guarantee that I've done the following with no consequence as of this posting. Oh. No, I'm not a hacker trying to deceive you to make spammers and hijackers find your computer.  I recommend you download and install the following before proceeding:

Norton Antivirus 2006 - Lavasoft Adaware - Zone Alarm PRO - HiJackThis  Pay now for these programs to save you money later having an expert reload everything you could lose due to a crafty virus or worm.   It's hard-drive insurance.

========================

RECENT INTERNET EXPLORER UPDATES using Microsoft Update utility in Windows 2000 have made web surfing safer to be sure, but a hassle for sites one might be used to visiting.

If you are having difficulty now in IE6 (Windows 2000) getting the JavaScript buttons to work (like SUBMIT, GOOGLE SEARCH, NEXT, RESET -- THOSE LITTLE GRAY BUTTONS) then I may have the solution.  I don't believe it to be a virus or worm.  At least Ad-Aware, Norton, Housecall, and ZoneAlarm didn't find it.

Here's what you need to do:  Open Internet Explorer.   At the top go to: Tools / Internet Options / Security Tab:  Click on the TRUST SITES icon.  Click CUSTOM LEVEL button.  Now you want to click each ENABLE radio button.  Last feature, you should click AUTOMATIC LOG ON USING CURRENT USERNAME  AND PASSWORD.  No matter what, make sure each function is ENABLED.

Click SITES button.  In the text box, type a domain you visit alot without the "http" or "www".  For example.   google.com.  Then click ADD button.  Do as may domain entries as you need.  Hotmail.com, Google.com, Yahoo.com, Msn.com, Ebay.com, etc.  You'll notice that an asterisk may be added automatically to your entry (maybe not).  Be sure to also UNCHECK the box at the bottom "REQUIRE SERVER AUTHENTICATION".

Now at the top of that box, click INTERNET icon.  At the bottom, click DEFAULT LEVEL, click APPLY. Almost done.

GO to the last tab on the right: ADVANCED and click it. Click the RESTORE DEFAULTS button at the bottom.  Find ENABLE THIRD-PARTY EXTENSIONS radio button in the white area and UNCHECK IT.   I think that's where the new Microsoft Updates gets us now.  TPE's are vulnerable to hackers and hijackers, so Windows 2000 and IE6 want them to go away (from what I can figure).

Now click APPLY, and OK buttons.  Close INTERNET EXPLORER.  Go to your START button, SHUT DOWN, RESTART.  After your computer reboots, your internet surfing should be much easier.  Of course, the easiest way to browse is installing MOZILLA FIREFOX.  It's free and won't uninstall INTERNET EXPLORER.  You can download it here.  I use Firefox when making online purchases.  DON'T USE IE6 anymore if transmitting or submitting personal information.  It's too risky.  Windows 2000 and IE6 are fast becoming obsolete.  Hackers are taking advantage of us poor slobs who refuse to change or invest in software that can keep our computers running safely.

Best wishes from a former victim and Happy Surfing.
